Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Updated 11:00 p.m., 28 March 2020

COVID-19

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness that was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China in December 2019. Since then, tens of thousands of confirmed cases have been reported worldwide. The novel (new) coronavirus that causes COVID-19, designated SARS-CoV-2, is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans. Symptoms of infection include fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

COVID-19 was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on Wednesday, 11 March 2020. On Friday, 13 March, a National Emergency was declared by the President of the United States, while the Governor of West Virginia ordered all public schools closed until further notice. Multiple positive cases of COVID-19 have been positively confirmed in Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia, and now, West Virginia.

The Corporation of Harpers Ferry has set up this special page to communicate important announcements and other information to our residents, merchants, and visitors concerning COVID-19. Updates will be posted as appropriate.
